I took this off of Wikipedia.org....I honestly wonder what critics look for when they critique something...cause I'm confused as to why they were so harsh with the Twilight Saga...

Quote :
Bella has received relatively negative reception from critics. Publishers Weekly states that, after her transformation into a vampire, "it's almost impossible to identify with her" in Breaking Dawn.[11] Lilah Lohr of the Chicago Tribune compares Bella's character to the story of the Quileute werewolves and describes it as "less satisfying."[12] During Twilight, Kirkus Reviews stated that "Bella's appeal is based on magic rather than character", but that her and Edward's "portrayal of dangerous lovers hits the spot".[13] In the review of New Moon, Kirkus Reviews said that Bella's personality was "flat and obsessive".[14] Laura Miller of salon.com said, in regards to Edward and Bella, "neither of them has much personality to speak of."[15] Entertainment Weekly's Jennifer Reese, in her review of Breaking Dawn noted, in regard to Bella, "You may wish she had loftier goals and a mind of her own, but these are fairy tales, and as a steadfast lover in the Disney princess mold, Bella has a certain saccharine appeal", and that during Bella's pregnancy "she is not only hard to identify with but positively horrifying, especially while guzzling human blood to nourish the infant."[16] Washington Post journalist Elizabeth Hand noted how Bella was often described as breakable and that "Edward's habit of constantly pulling her onto his lap or having her ride on his back further emphasize her childlike qualities", continuing to write that "the overall effect is a weird infantilization that has repellent overtones to an adult reader and hardly seems like an admirable model to foist upon our daughters (or sons)."[17] Gina Dalfonzo, in an article posted on the National Review website, calls Bella "self-deprecating" before her transformation into a vampire, and afterwards she is "insufferably vain".[18] Dalfonzo also states that Bella gets what she wants and discovers her worth "by giving up her identity and throwing away nearly everything in life that matters."[18] Natalie Pompilio of The Philadelphia Inquirer notes that Bella is selfish for "putting aside friendships and family for her Edward obsession."

I don't see what they saw and I just lol'd when I read this...Bella does become relatable at a certain point...IDK maybe it was because she became a vampire...duh! I had more to say bout this but I have to unattach myself from my computer to go to work!

see people really read too much into a book that is FICTION! omg..gah. the part i hated was when they said something about how when she was pregnant you couldn't relate to her and she was horrifying while drinking blood. HELLOOOOO they must not be parents. cause if you are a decent human and are preggers... EVERYTHING you do is for that child and that's why she had to drink that. gah don't get me started..lmao. so many complained about that part in BD.

hell i wish i had someone that pulled me in their lap all the time and what not. just about every vampire book i've read they are like that. they are protective and so loving.

ok now i'm getting way to into it..lmao.. people are stupid is all it is.

Well The things that I hate about the negative remarks the critics made.

1. Not just them but everyone complains about the way Stephenie humanizes Vampires...OK why is there a set way that people are supposed to portray Vampires?...they are FICTIONAL and does everyone have to use a set format in how they write about Vampires...and Vampires were human at a time why can't they retain some of those human qualities in immortality?...I think she did a good Job in these books to explain why they are how they are..it made sense to me! but Rolling Eyes

2. Bella is the shit I never thought she lacked Character and personality...WTF....I thought she was very relatable and what was she supposed to be like...The only person who didn't see her as a beautiful wonderful girl was Bella herself...and I know plenty of Girls like that...and I have a lot of Bella similarities! Bella was clumsy,I loved her sense of humor kind of like mine, she was clumsy, kind of Anti-Social at times, doesn't like surprises, and she wasn't the popular girl in school, she is very smart and considered herself average...and She Fell in love with a beautiful guy who adored her...if you strip away the Vampire aspect of it you have a ton of girls/women around the world that can definitely relate to that...and Bella in new moon was heart broken when the first guy she ever loved just left her...I have never been in love but I'm sure that was normal behavior for a girl who lost not only one person she loved but also 6 other people she had grown to love!

3. Umm Edward lacked Character...How can someone who is over one hundred years old, doesn't sleep, and has as many talents & abilities that Edward has not have character?...Dude I'm looking for my Edward Cullen as we speak... once again if you strip the Vampire aspect of it...Edward is funny, polite, charming, protective, loving and beautiful...lacks character?....Please!

4. Bella was giving up some things like School and her mom and dad...and thats not even made clear if she gave up Charlie and Renee..it was complicated...she didn't really have many friends to begin with and she has a new family to focus on with her Edward and Reneseme her baby! the book ended and no one really even knew if she would not go to college she seemed interested in doing that a little! they are silly...I never once looked at Bella as being flat they are just reading too much into this...
Quote :
Edward's habit of constantly pulling her onto his lap or having her ride on his back further emphasize her childlike qualities

Quote :
Infantilization

I never took that from the book...Edward seeing Bella as breakable was because he could not be killed easily and Bella was human and things like being smashed between a vehicle and shot could kill her...He was immortal so why would he not be overprotective? and pulling her on his lap was just him showing her affection...and riding on his back was a faster way for him to travel cause he was super fast and she was slow and clumsy...point blank...what in the holy hell were they reading...sometimes things are not as complex as people make them to be...I have the urge to read these books and support the film even more! Twisted Evil

It's too easy to get defensive wen I read stuff like this...i'm mad now!

If some people don't have something to complain about they will explode! I learned this by working in retail.

I agree that critics read too much into stuff but have you guys ever really looked at how critics review....most of the time they hate stuff. Even stuff that is amazing and gets a great reaction from fans. Critics think totally different than fans do and it is their job to overanalyze. It actually is funny because I am so used to seeing it now that if I see tons of critics that give it positive reviews....I wonder about the book or movie lol. Critics usually respond the opposite of how fans or the public would and half the stuff they say is a bit out there or they are simply reaching. They never just sit back and enjoy what they read or watch....they simply overanalyze way too much. It is the same with both the books and the movie for Twilight. When getting graded I think they said some critics failed it and others gave it like a C for the high rating......and look how much Twilight has grossed.
