Mizuno has a long heritage of producing good-looking, sweet-feeling forged irons. If you have always kept an watchful eye on or hit its golf clubs, you may know this. Mizuno MP-64 Irons set is the new one that hit the market now.

Mizuno have created a beautiful set of irons that can be worked like a blade but have some added forgiveness. They just feel amazing and the flight is fantastic with a tight dispersion. The MP-64 has a traditional look with more than enough playability. The ball feels like it melts into the face but then springs off like a sprinter out of the blocks.

I like my Mizuno MP-59 Irons very much before, after a try of the 64, I felt the former one rather dead by comparison. The purpose of the thick muscle pad behind the clubface is to provide the feel of a muscleback blade. It's also designed to promote forgiveness in the long irons and keep the ball flight down with the short irons.

However, the real secret comes in the form of the sole grind. It features softer edges for consistent turf interaction, making the irons more playable. I had no trouble getting the ball airborne, easier to work the ball with MP-64 than the cheap ping i20 irons. Especially in the area of turf interaction and the grinds around the heel and back of the sole are very subtle and give the club some smooth lines.

The MP-64s may very well be the club destined to push my previous golf wholesale out of my bag for good thanks to their traditional look and superb, soft feel out of the middle. The softer leading edge can let you get away with the odd slightly ‘fat’ shot while in wetter, lusher conditions I found them much easier to use.
